Derek has served as an investment advisor and fiduciary since 2011. He began his career in financial services with Edward Jones before joining SunTrust Investment Services. These experiences provided the foundation and knowledge that ultimately led him to establish his own independent practice, Layman Financial, in December 2015.

He holds a Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University Irvine and maintains the following registrations: Series 7, Series 66, and Virginia Life, Annuity, and Health Insurance. Derek earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP^®) designation in August 2025.

Beyond his professional work, Derek has been married to his wife, Heather, since 2014. Together, they have a blended family of six children and three grandchildren. A lifelong resident of Franklin County, Derek enjoys traveling, hiking, kayaking, and spending time with family and friends. Heather, a Henry County native, has been a licensed hairdresser since 1992 and is the owner of her own salon, root40.

Taylor brings over a decade of leadership experience in healthcare and client service management to her role as Director of Client Services at Layman Financial. With a proven background in operations, organizational management, and client care, Taylor is dedicated to ensuring that every client receives exceptional support throughout their financial journey.

Taylor is currently advancing her education in Administrative Management, further enhancing the leadership and organizational experience developed through years of professional experience. She specializes in streamlining processes, strengthening client relationships, and providing behind-the-scenes coordination that allows the advisory team to focus on delivering personalized financial strategies.

Beyond her professional work, Taylor is a creative entrepreneur and lifelong learner who enjoys painting, design products, and helping others bring order and clarity to their lives. A devoted parent, she values time with her two children and her family, as well as traveling and creating meaningful memories.

Jessie is an office management professional with a decade of experience in human resources and administration. Her experience and knowledge led her to joining Layman Financial in August of 2023. Prior to joining the firm, she held an office manager position for eight years at Estes Express Lines.

Jessie has been married to her husband, Dylan, since October of 2021 and they have two children. Jessie was born and raised in Franklin County along with her husband. Dylan has been a welder since 2010 and is the superintendent of welding at SiteReach in Rocky Mount. Jessie and Dylan enjoy the outdoors, gardening, cooking and spending time with their family.
